Principals are calling for an overhaul of teacher training because some primary teachers are graduating ill-prepared to teach basic subjects like reading and maths. Normal and middle schools are specially funded to work with teacher education providers and their students. The President of the Normal and Model School Association, Stuart Armistead, told our education correspondent, John Gerritsen, the 29 schools are convinced that standard teacher education courses are not as good as they used to be.
